The Government of Spain (GOS) has spent about 400,000 euros in painting portraits of former President Jose Maria Aznar, Francisco AlvarezCascos and Magdalena Alvarez (current European Investment Bank vice-president) to be hanged at the Moncloa Palace. It is a tradition that it seems has not been affected by cuts in public spending in order to tackle the economic crisis. Specifically, GOS has spent over 400,000 Euros for a portrait painting of Jose Maria Aznar and other former ministers from both Popular and Socialist parties.

Mr. Francisco AlvarezCascos (former vice-president) and Ms. Maria Jesús San Segundo (recently deceased) also have their portrait. Aznar’s cost just 82,600 euros, according to the Ministry of the Presidency. They will be posted on Moncloa Palace walls. The painter chosen, also portrayed in previous occasions the Bourbons (both father and son), Mr. Javier Solana (former European Union’s High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy), Ms. Esperanza Aguirre (current Madrid Regional President), and Mr. Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón (current Madrid Mayor).
